GOOD FLUTE REPAIR OPTIONS IN CONNECTICUT:

Tim Moran Woodwinds, Hamden
Tim is an excellent woodwind doubler and technician.  He repairs and also refurbishes woodwind instruments.  We bought our son’s saxophone, refurbished, from Tim and he’s been working on my students’ flutes for many years.

The Boundless Flute, Middletown
Sarah at the Boundless flute is the first repair person in Connecticut who is certified to work with Straubinger pads!!  Finally!!  So if you’ve got a high end flute that needs a certified technician, she’s a fantastic local option.

Your Flute Works (Anne Pollack)
OK, so this one isn’t in CT, but Anne worked on my flute for at least 15 years when I lived closer to the city.  She is great, and a great option if you’re in NYC, and you can also ship your flute to her for repair work.

**NOTE**  It’s really important to get your flute adjusted/repaired at least once a year.  In the business, we call it a “clean, oil, and adjust” or COA for short.  At this time, anything that needs to get done will be addressed, preventing costly issues later on.  I urge you to choose a repair person who is also a flutist, especially once you’ve moved past your beginner flute.  You will really notice the difference in your flute and your playing when it is well maintained.

FLUTE PURCHASES

Important:  It is really crucial that flute purchases are made in consultation with your teacher.  Your teacher knows brands that have stood the test of time, and may have preferences for specific models and makes.  Certainly, although it is tempting, it is important to avoid those special “COSTCO” and other online deals on flutes that seem to good to be true.  The are too good to be true.  These instruments are very poor quality and have been the cause of great frustration for many of my students.  That said, here are some ideas of places to purchase:

Locally, you can try a few options at Music and Arts, East Hartford.

Other great resources where you can either order several flutes on trial or make an appointment to try various flutes:
